On June 13, 2025, the Ministry of Construction officially granted Air Transport Business License No. 01/2025/GPKDVCHK to Sun Phu Quoc Co., Ltd., marking the official establishment of Sun PhuQuoc Airways under Sun Group. The airline launches with a total investment capital of VND 2,500 billion (approximately USD 99 million).

Sun PhuQuoc Airways becomes Vietnam’s seventh airline.
By becoming Vietnam’s seventh airline, Sun PhuQuoc Airways joins the ranks of leading carriers such as Vietnam Airlines, VietJet, Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines, VASCO, and Vietravel Airlines. The airline is positioned as a full-service carrier combined with premium charter services, with a strategic focus on the tourism and leisure travel market.

Fleet and Operational Plan
Phase 1:
- Fleet will begin with Airbus A320/A321 aircraft, particularly the A321neo, which offers approximately 20% fuel savings and a flight range of up to 7,400 km.
- Negotiations with Boeing will commence to acquire Boeing 787-9/10 Dreamliners, targeting long-haul international routes.
Operational Timeline:
- Inaugural flight scheduled for Q4/2025
- Fleet target by 2030: 31 aircraft, supporting a diversified domestic and international flight network.
Strategic Significance & Market Opportunities:
- Diversifying Vietnam’s Aviation Industry: Sun PhuQuoc Airways contributes to enriching the domestic aviation market, particularly in the premium service segment. Its presence is expected to create positive competitive pressure on existing airlines, driving service innovation and enhancing the overall passenger experience.
- Stimulating Airport Infrastructure Development: The launch of Sun PhuQuoc Airways necessitates synchronized investment in aviation infrastructure — from terminals, parking aprons, and technical stations to ground logistics systems. Phu Quoc and Van Don International Airports, the airline’s two main operational hubs, will need to be upgraded to meet the demands of premium services, accommodate modern aircraft fleets, and handle increased international passenger traffic.
Aviation Industry Landscape and Competitive Trends

Key domestic airlines currently operating in Vietnam
Sun PhuQuoc Airways’ market entry in the post-pandemic period marks a strategic move, as the aviation industry is undergoing a strong recovery. According to IATA data, international passenger demand in the Asia–Pacific region grew by over 34% in Q1 2025 compared to the same period last year.
However, alongside opportunities come significant challenges. Pricing pressure, service quality, and maintaining high load factors are key issues that new entrants must address. Strategic investment in technology, workforce training, and integration with tourism and logistics ecosystems will be critical to establishing Sun PhuQuoc Airways as a distinctive and sustainable player in Vietnam’s aviation market.
Opportunities for Smart Hub Aviation
The launch of Sun PhuQuoc Airways not only revitalizes Vietnam’s aviation sector but also opens up significant partnership opportunities for logistics enterprises. With its integrated service ecosystem, Smart Hub Aviation is well-positioned to play a vital role in providing transportation and warehousing solutions at Phu Quoc and Van Don airports—two core operational hubs of the new airline.
In addition, developing specialized logistics services for charter flights and building an end-to-end integrated supply chain will be a strategic direction for Smart Hub to increase its value proposition and expand its international partner network.
